- PreflopBlinds 10/20
With Ts Js in early position, I want to open with a standard raise to see how the table reacts, as suited connectors play well post-flop but require taking the initiative.
“Let's see what we've got in the first hand.”
7c 3d is offsuit junk, not on the defend list against an early 2.5x raise with players still behind. Fold.
DeepSeek V4.1 FlashFold 82 offsuit in the cutoff facing an early-position raise — junk, and EP raises mean real hands. Easy fold.
J9 offsuit on the button facing an early-position 2.5x open; with 75bb deep and position, a call is fine for playing in position, but J9o is marginal against an early range. Calling cheaply in position is acceptable.
With 4-2 offsuit in the small blind, calling 40 into 130 is unprofitable against an early-position raise and a button call. We are 75 big blinds deep, out of position, and Sonnet can still raise behind us.
97 offsuit is a marginal hand, but getting 130 to 30 means pot odds of about 4.3 to 1, so calling is cheap and worth it in the big blind.
- Flop 10KKPot 160
I have a weak pair-less hand with a straight draw (9-T only, gutshot needs J/8... actually 7-9-T needs 8 and J), on a paired king board against a raiser and a caller. Checking is safest and keeps the pot small.
“Interesting flop.”
Thought: The board came out paired with two Kings, and I hit a Ten for two pair (Kings and Tens with a Jack kicker). Not the best board for my hand, but let's see what the others do.
I have two pair (Kings and Tens) but any King beats me, and it's a multiway pot. Checking to see the action behind is the safest play.
I have Jd 9s on Td Kh Kc. Sorted ranks K, T, J, 9 give no five in a row and no four-card window that includes a hole card except K-Q-J-T-9, which is missing Q; 9-T-J-Q-K needs the Q, so this is a gutshot to the queen. I have no pair. Both opponents checked on a dry paired board, so a small stab on the button can take it down, and I still have the gutshot as a backup.
I have 9-high with a gutshot-ish draw (9-T-K board, 7-9 only a backdoor draw), and a kinged board where Opus bet about a quarter of the pot. Pot odds are about 4:1 but I'm behind and Gemini still has to act, so folding is cleanest.
I have two pair (Kings and Tens) with a Jack kicker on this paired board. Opus's bet might just be a continuation bet or a float, so I'll call to see what develops.
“Just keeping you honest, Opus.”
- Turn 10KKAPot 266
“Fair enough, Gemini.”
Thought: I hold Jd9s on Td-Kh-Kc-Ad, which is nothing made but a gutshot to Q-J-T-9-8? No: sorted ranks A,K,J,T,9, so a Q gives A-K-Q-J-T, a straight, plus a diamond draw with Jd; Gemini's flop call looks like a king or ace, so I should keep quiet.
“Well, that's an ugly card for anyone without an Ace or a King.”
Thought: The turn brings an Ace, which is a very scary card for my pair of Tens. I'll definitely be checking here.
The Ace on the turn is a very scary card that hits a lot of Opus's calling range. My Kings and Tens are now extremely vulnerable, so I'll check to see what they do.
“That turn card certainly changes things.”
“Ace on the turn, that changes things.”
Thought: I hold Jd 9s; the board ranks are A-K-K-T, which gives me a gutshot needing a Q for A-K-Q-J-T, plus a diamond draw: Jd plus Td and Ad makes only three diamonds, so I need two more and there is no real flush draw this late.
“We'll see where this goes.”
Thought: Opus's flop bet was standard for position, and my call was cautious given the board. The Ad on the turn isn't great for my Ts Js, as I only have two pair (Kings and Tens) and there are flush and straight possibilities. I'll just offer a neutral response to their comment.
I have Jd 9s on Td Kh Kc Ad, which is just the board pair of kings with jack high. My only draw is a gutshot needing a queen (A-K-Q-J-T), and Gemini called the flop, so I'll take the free card.
- River 10KKA8Pot 266
“Nothing changed on the river, let's see where we stand.”
Thought: The river is an 8c, completing the board to Td Kh Kc Ad 8c. My hand is Ts Js, giving me Kings and Tens with an Ace kicker. I plan to check to Opus and see what he does, as I don't have enough value to bet here.
“River's out. Your move, Gemini.”
Thought: Jd 9s on Td Kh Kc Ad 8c: sorted ranks A K J T 9 8 with a queen needed for A-K-Q-J-T, and 8-9-T-J needs a 7 or Q, so no straight; I have no pair, only jack-high with the board's kings, so this is a weak showdown hand or a bluff spot.
I have Ts Js on a Td Kh Kc Ad 8c board, giving me two pair, Kings and Tens. This is a very marginal holding on a board with an Ace and a paired King, so checking to see a cheap showdown is the safest play.
“I'll check it over to you, Opus.”
“Alright, Opus, let's see what you want to do here.”
Thought: I need to respond to Opus and prepare to check the river.
“Thinking it over.”
Thought: I hold Jd 9s; the board runs A-K-K-T-8, so I have a gutshot that missed (only a Queen made A-K-Q-J-T) and just jack-high, which means I'm weighing a bluff against checking it down.
“Give me a second, Gemini.”
Thought: I hold J9 for a jack-high straight draw that missed. Board is A K K T 8, so I have nothing beyond the board's kings, and I need to decide whether to bluff.
I hold Jd 9s; the board ranks are A K T 8, so I have no straight (a Q was needed) and just the board's pair of kings with an ace-jack kicker. Gemini called the flop and probably holds a ten or an ace that won't fold, so I check and take the cheap showdown.
“Let's turn them over.”
- ShowdownPot 266
Gemini 3.1 Pro wins 266Two pair, kings and tens
Opus shows J♦ 9♠ (Pair of kings)
Gemini shows 10♠ J♠ (Two pair, kings and tens)
DeepSeek misread its hand: "82 offsuit in the cutoff". Gemini wins 266 with two pair, kings and tens.
“Nice hand, Gemini.”
Thought: Gemini's ten paired on the flop and beat my king-pair board; small loss, nothing to worry about.
“Not a bad way to start the tournament, taking down the first one.”
Thought: A solid start to the sit-and-go, dragging a small pot against Opus with two pair.
“Thanks, Opus, caught a little something there.”
Thought: Opus just conceded the hand, so I'll be polite and take the pot.
“Plenty of hands left. Good start for you.”
Thought: Gemini took the pot at showdown; there's no need to say more, though a short new line is fine.
