- PreflopBlinds 10/20
I have 4c 4s (four of clubs, four of spades), an offsuit pair. From early position, this is a bit too weak to play aggressively, but it has good set-mining potential. I will raise it to a standard size to take control.
3d 6d is d d SAME, a weak suited gapper not on the middle-position call or 3-bet list versus an early raise with players still behind, so this is a fold.
J8 from the cutoff facing a raise from Gemini (very tight, real hands only) — this is junk and well outside my calling range. Easy fold.
Qh4d offsuit is a weak hand facing an early-position open, so I fold.
Q9 offsuit is too weak to defend out of position against an early-position raise at 75 big blinds deep, especially with Sonnet still to act. Folding avoids a dominated hand with poor equity realization.
K9 offsuit is marginal, but I'm getting good pot odds (30 to win 80) against an early-position raise, and only one opponent is left. Calling is fine, though I'd be out of position postflop. I'll call and play carefully.
- Flop 4910Pot 110
I have top pair with a decent kicker on a draw-heavy board, so I bet about half pot for value and protection against overcards and draws.
“Let's see if this flop brings any action.”
Thought: I hit bottom set on a draw-heavy board; time to see what Sonnet does, but I'll make a casual remark to build a relaxed image.
I flopped bottom set (4c 4s on 4h 9s Td) and face a half-pot donk bet. Raising here is standard for value and to charge any straight draws like J8 or 78.
Claude Sonnet 5.5Call 165 I have top pair (nines) with a king kicker on a draw-heavy board. Gemini's raise to 220 is strong, but the price is only 165 into a pot of 385, so calling is reasonable and keeps the pot manageable.
- Turn 49107Pot 550
Claude Sonnet 5.5Check I have middle pair with a decent kicker on a coordinated board (4-7-9-T). Gemini raised the flop, which shows strength, so I'd rather check and keep the pot manageable than build it with a one-pair hand.
“Turn brings a little more texture. Let's see what you've got, Sonnet.”
Thought: I've got bottom set, 4c 4s, on a wet 4h 9s Td 7c board. Sonnet called my flop raise, so they could have a straight draw, a ten, or maybe two pair. I'm hoping to get more value here.
I have bottom set on a fairly coordinated board. I want to continue building the pot and charge straight draws.
“Still checking to me, Sonnet?”
Claude Sonnet 5.5Call 413 I have a pair of nines with a king kicker on a 4-9-T-7 board, so middle pair, top kicker. Gemini raised the flop and bet big on the turn, which looks like a straight (8-J, 86, J8) or two pair/set. Pot odds are about 3.3 to 1, so I need roughly 23% equity. Against a value-heavy range I'm behind, but Gemini's chat is fishing and a pair of nines beats bluffs, so a call is reasonable.
- River 491077Pot 1,376
“Well, Sonnet, the board paired. Does that help your hand or mine?”
Thought: The river paired the board, making me a full house, 4s full of 7s. Sonnet has to act first. I'll needle them a bit to see if I can get them to bluff or value bet worse.
I have two pair, nines and sevens with a king kicker, but Gemini has shown strength by raising the flop and betting the turn. A bet risks only worse hands folding and better hands calling, so I check and take the free showdown.
I have a full house (Fours full of Sevens). With a stack-to-pot ratio of less than 1, going all-in is the best way to extract maximum value from any straight, trips, or two pair you might have.
“Time to put the rest of the chips in the middle. All in.”
Claude Sonnet 5.5All-in 817 Two pair, nines and sevens with a king kicker, and the pot odds need only about 27% equity. Gemini's range includes bluffs and weaker tens, so I call.
- ShowdownPot 3,010
Gemini 3.1 Pro wins 3,010Full house, fours full of sevens
Sonnet shows K♦ 9♥ (Two pair, nines and sevens)
Gemini shows 4♣ 4♠ (Full house, fours full of sevens)
Sonnet misread its hand: "I have top pair on a dry-ish board". Gemini wins 3010 with full house, fours full of sevens.
“Well played, Gemini. Good luck, everyone.”
Thought: Busted in hand one after calling off with two pair on a paired board; nothing left to do but be gracious.
“Good game, Sonnet. Nice to get a strong start right out of the gate.”
Thought: Wow, I stacked Sonnet on hand 1 with a flopped set that turned into a full house. Great start to the sit-and-go.
“Good game, Sonnet. Better luck next time.”
Thought: I busted Sonnet right on the first hand. A solid start to the sit-and-go with a full house.
