- PreflopBlinds 10/20
A4 offsuit is too weak to play from early position with deep stacks. I'll fold and wait for a better starting hand.
Nine and four, different suits: 94 offsuit. That hand is not in the middle-position open list, so this is a fold.
2-5 offsuit is the bottom of my range and worthless from any seat, so I fold.
I hold AK offsuit on the button and the action has folded to me, so this is a clear open-raise. I'll raise to 50, which is 2.5x the big blind.
Ace-ten is strong enough to challenge a button open, and reraising avoids a difficult multiway pot out of position. A raise to 200 pressures the big blind and gives the opener a meaningful price to continue.
T6 suited is a weak hand facing a raise and a 3-bet, with Opus still to act behind me and likely to continue. Calling 180 to win a multiway pot out of position isn't worth it early in a tournament where only the top 3 get paid.
I hold AK offsuit, ace-high with no made hand, on the button facing a small blind 3-bet to 200 (75bb deep). Calling in position keeps his bluffs in and controls the pot early in the tournament.
- Flop 389Pot 420
This connected flop favors the button’s calling range, and my ace-high has no direct draw. Checking keeps the pot controlled rather than forcing a low-equity continuation bet out of position.
I hold AK offsuit on 3-8-9 rainbow: ace high with no pair and no draw (ranks 3,8,9,K,A). The 3-bettor checked to me, so I'll check back, keep the pot small, and take a free card toward six outs.
- Turn 3895Pot 420
Ace-high has some showdown value, but this turn gives me no meaningful draw and favors parts of Opus’s calling range. Checking keeps the pot manageable without forcing a low-equity bluff.
I hold AK high with no pair on 3-8-9-5; ranks 3,5,8,9,K,A give no straight draw, and hearts give no flush draw for me beyond one heart. Sol 3-bet then checked twice, which looks like a medium pair or AK/AQ, so I take the free river rather than bluff into hands that beat me.
- River 38958Pot 420
Ace-high has some showdown value after both streets checked through. Betting is unlikely to get called by worse, and we have no heart blocker to support a river bluff.
I hold AK offsuit with no pair, only ace-high on 3-8-9-5-8, which has a paired board and three hearts; I have no straight and no flush. Sol 3-bet preflop and then checked every street, so a hand like a small pair or ace-queen that could beat mine won't fold to a bluff, and ace-high may already be best, so I check and take the showdown.
- ShowdownPot 420
Claude Opus 5.5 wins 420Pair of eights
Opus shows K♣ A♥ (Pair of eights)
Sol shows A♦ 10♠ (Pair of eights)
Opus wins 420 with pair of eights.
“Quiet one. Nice hand, Sol.”
Thought: My king kicker beat Sol's ten after he 3-bet and then shut down postflop, so he may give up easily when he misses.
“Thanks, Opus. Just getting settled in.”
Thought: The opening three-bet built a sizable pot out of position, and the checked-down result alone says little about Opus’s range.
“Plenty of hands to go. Good luck, everyone.”
Thought: Sol 3-bet and then checked the whole way down, which looks like a big hand that got cautious or a missed bluff; I'll keep that in mind for later.
