- PreflopBlinds 40/80
I hold As4s, ace-high with no made hand yet. With 5 players and only Sol, Gemini and the blinds behind, this is effectively a hijack open, and I have a big stack at 40bb, so a standard 2.5x open-raise with a suited ace is fine.
Pocket deuces are too weak to reshove against an early-position raise with three players still behind. Calling costs too much for reliable set-mining at my 20-big-blind stack depth, especially with a short big blind who could shove.
Gemini 3.1 ProCall 200 Holding pocket 5s on the button facing an early position raise from Opus. With a decent stack, calling to set-mine in position is standard and keeps the pot manageable if we miss.
“Let's see if these nickels can turn into something bigger.”
65 offsuit is junk out of the small blind facing an early raise and a button call, with the big blind still to act. Fold and wait for a listed hand.
J6o is offsuit junk facing a raise plus a caller, and I'm short — this is a clear pre-commit fold, not a defend.
- Flop K52Pot 520
I hold As4s on Kd-5s-2s: ace high with the nut flush draw plus a wheel draw (A,2,4,5 present, a 3 completes A-2-3-4-5), a strong combo draw. I'll c-bet about half pot for fold equity and build the pot.
“Let's keep it moving.”
“Well, this flop has a bit of everything, doesn't it?”
Thought: I spiked middle set on the flop. With Opus raising preflop, I'm hoping they have a King or a flush draw to bet into me.
Gemini 3.1 ProRaise 1,040 I flopped middle set on a two-flush board. Opus continuation-bet 260 into a 520 pot. A raise here builds the pot for value and protects against flush draws, making him pay to draw.
“You got it, Opus. Let's keep the action going.”
“Big raise, Gemini. Give me a second with this one.”
Thought: I have the nut flush draw plus a wheel gutshot with A-4 on K-5-2 (a 3 makes A-2-3-4-5), and Gemini's 'nickels' talk hints at fives, possibly a set; I'll decide when it's my turn.
Claude Opus 5.5All-in 3,045 I hold As 4s on Kd 5s 2s: ace-high, the nut flush draw, and a gutshot to the wheel with a 3 (A-2-3-4-5), so lots of outs. Gemini has only 670 behind, so shoving puts him all-in and I have plenty of equity even against a set, with fold equity on top.
“Let's settle it now.”
“Take your time, Opus. There are a lot of draws out there, so I couldn't just call.”
Thought: I flopped middle set and Opus is thinking about my big raise. I want him to commit more chips with a top pair type hand or a strong draw, so I'll try to goad him slightly while acting like I'm protecting a vulnerable hand.
Gemini 3.1 ProAll-in 670 I flopped middle set on a relatively safe board and am facing an all-in. I am completely committed and my hand is incredibly strong, only beaten by pocket kings.
“I found my set, Opus. I'm not going anywhere, let's see if it holds!”
- River K5292Pot 3,940
- ShowdownPot 3,940
Gemini 3.1 Pro wins 3,940Full house, fives full of twos
Opus shows A♠ 4♠ (Flush, ace high)
Gemini shows 5♥ 5♦ (Full house, fives full of twos)
Gemini wins 3940 with full house, fives full of twos.
“Board pair got me. Well played, Gemini, and good luck to all of you.”
Thought: I had the nut flush, but the board paired and gave Gemini a full house, so I'm out; that was a cooler and I played it fine.
“Wow, I really needed that river card to pair the board. Good hand, Opus.”
Thought: I hit a full house on the river to beat Opus's flopped flush. A lucky runout for me.
“Brutal river, Gemini. Nicely held. I'm still in this.”
Thought: My ace-high flush was beaten when the river paired the board and gave Gemini's set a full house, but I covered the all-in and still have chips.
“Good game, Opus. That river card was definitely the one I was praying for.”
Thought: Opus busted on the river because the board paired, giving me a full house over whatever they had (maybe a flush or a straight). They were a good sport about it, so I'll wish them well.
“That's poker. Nice hand, Gemini, and enjoy the rest of it, everyone.”
Thought: My nut flush lost to Gemini's set of fives filling up on the river, and that busts me in 5th, so a short gracious exit is all that's left.
“That was a rough one, Opus. You played it well, good luck with the short stack.”
Thought: Opus just got a tough beat since my set of fives improved to a full house on the river, beating whatever draw or made hand he had. Acknowledging his polite comment is good sportsmanship.
“Thanks, Gemini. That's poker. On to the next one.”
Thought: I had the nut flush and Gemini's set of fives filled up on the river; it was a cooler, so I'll move on with my short stack and stay disciplined.
“GG Opus, it was a wild board. Best of luck next time.”
Thought: I just knocked out Opus with my full house. It's polite to offer a final 'good game' and acknowledge the tough spot they were in.
