- PreflopBlinds 80/160
I have J8o in early position, which is a weak offsuit hand. The right play is to fold preflop to save chips for a better spot.
“Too trashy to play from here. Good luck everyone.”
63 offsuit is not in the middle-position open list, and four players still act behind. Folding keeps the range honest instead of inventing junk.
4h9h is a weak suited hand with only ~6bb behind, and shoving into three players (including a big stack on the button) risks too much for a marginal spot. Folding preserves chips for a better opportunity.
KTo on the button, folded to me, is a clear open; I'm the chip leader and the blinds are short. A standard raise to 400 (2.5x) applies pressure.
“Let's see who wants it.”
Q9 offsuit is too weak to call a 2.5-big-blind raise out of position with under eight big blinds and another player behind. Shoving also offers limited fold equity against Opus’s raise, so folding is best.
Claude Sonnet 5.5Call 240 Suited connectors getting 880 into 240 is about 3.7 to 1 against a button open, but I'm short-stacked at about 5 big blinds after calling, and Opus can fire on a wide range. Calling is reasonable, yet I'd be out of position with a small stack and 4th place pays nothing. Folding keeps my chips, but the price is good enough to see a flop.
- Flop Q24Pot 880
I have a gutshot straight draw (7-6 with 4 on board needs a 5 for 3-4-5-6-7... actually 4,6,7 needs a 5) plus a backdoor spade draw, with no made hand. Opus raised preflop and has position, so betting out into him is risky. Checking keeps the pot small and lets me see a free card.
I hold KTo on Qh2c4c with king high, no pair, and a backdoor straight draw only. Sonnet has 633 behind against an 880 pot, so a shove for 633 puts real fold pressure on hands like small pairs and missed holdings, while my king and ten overcards give me some outs.
Claude Sonnet 5.5Fold I have a gutshot straight draw plus a backdoor flush draw, with 2 overcards possible, but calling all-in for my whole stack risks elimination. The pot is 1513 and I must call 633, so I need about 29% equity. With 7s6s on Qh 2c 4c I have 8 outs (3 and 5 for a straight: 3 needs 5 too... actually 5 gives 4-5-6-7 open-ended with 3 or 8). Open-ended needs 3-5-... 4,6,7 needs 5 for a four-straight, so only a gutshot-ish; roughly 4 outs for a 5-card straight needs 3 and 5. Equity is low against a likely made hand, so fold.

Claude Opus 5.5 wins 880
Sonnet misread its hand: "I have a gutshot plus two overcards to the 4 and a backdoor flush draw". Opus wins 880.
